LocalEats is a hyperlocal Android marketplace that connects home chefs in residential societies with nearby buyers. Sellers list homemade meals, buyers browse and order, and real-time notifications keep everyone updated on order status and payments. A built-in utility directory, society-level broadcasts, and role-based dashboards round out a complete community food platform -- reducing dependence on outside delivery apps and promoting healthier eating habits.

Case Study (STAR Format)

Residents in large housing societies regularly depend on outside food delivery apps, resulting in unhealthy eating, high costs, and zero support for talented home chefs within the same community who lack a platform to reach nearby customers.

The application aims to build a mobile-first marketplace that removes friction between home chefs and society residents -- enabling chefs to list meals, accept orders, and manage payments, while giving buyers a trusted, hyperlocal alternative to commercial food delivery.

As a solution, designed and developed LocalEats, a native Android app with role-based dashboards (Buyer, Seller, Delivery, Admin), society-scoped food listings, real-time FCM push notifications for order and payment updates, a utility services directory for local tradespeople, and society-wide broadcast notifications. Used Supabase as the backend (PostgreSQL, Edge Functions, database webhooks) and Jetpack Compose for a modern, responsive UI. Implemented Google Sign-In, restaurant validity management, food item reviews, and edge-to-edge Android 15 compliance.

Home chefs can now monetize their cooking skills with minimal setup; society residents discover affordable, healthy meals just a building away. The platform fosters community trust through ratings and reviews, cuts delivery distances to near-zero, and provides a scalable model replicable across any residential complex.
